Did anyone see the Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth divorce coming? The Legally Blonde actor shared the news of her separation on social media on March 24, and already the rumor mill is a-churning with possible reasons for why things didn't work out—including one theory that involves failed streaming company Quibi.
Page Six reported that the spark was gone. The Sun claimed Toth was having a midlife crisis. People says the two were just heading in different directions in their lives. Now Radar Online has a source saying that Toth's decision to join Quibi was the real beginning of the end. According to the online tabloid, he quit his job at CAA (a prominent Hollywood agency) in 2019 in order to join media mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg's new start-up streaming platform, which turned out to be the $1.7 billion flop known as Quibi.
“Leaving his position at CAA to join Quibi was a huge gamble,” Radar's insider said. “At the time Reese asked Jim if it was worth the risk, but he said he was up for the challenge and felt confident he’d bring home millions.” The suggestion is that this failure was a source of so much tension that it eventually led to their divorce after nearly 12 years of marriage.
Now, is this what really happened between Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth? According to the source quoted in People, “Reese is obviously disappointed and upset. She never saw herself getting another divorce.” This source added, “They are two very different people though. Reese is headstrong and focused. Although very hardworking, Jim is more laid-back.”
So make of that what you will.
