Taylor Swift's Eras tour tickets aren't the only thing coveted by fans—so are the sweatshirts, tees, and other merch items available at each tour top to wear proudly and serve as a memento that you got to attend the highly anticipated tour and sing along with every word. However, some fans—many of whom waited for hours to get their tees—are finding that the merch doesn't quite live up to their expectations and are sharing their disappointment on TikTok.
One shirt, in particular, seems to have some issues after washing: the main tour exclusive tee, a colorful cotton tee that features a glimpse of Taylor in each of her eras and its B&W version. Countless Swifties have posted their experience with the merch on the platform, including user kyliemeagan who claims a $45 tee faded and warped after one wash as did tiktoktara819 and through_tylis_eyes.
After washing, the Taylors appear to fade, and some users have noticed the black dye from the lettering bleeding across the cotton shirt. "I've been a fan for my whole life. I'll probably never get to go to a Taylor Swift concert again," said Tyli of her disappointment.
Fan daphneorta also claims the shirt looked distressed after one wash, with some of the Taylors looking almost like photo negatives because of the heavy fading. While many fans say they don't regret their purchase, they are disappointed in the quality at such a high price point for a cotton T-shirt.
Of course, there are plenty of ways to preserve and care for your clothes, like turning them inside out, washing on cold or delicate, and skipping the dryer when possible. Some commenters even advised "setting the ink" by ironing it under a piece of parchment paper. However, user raighsunshine, who also says she noticed the same issues on her tee, voiced her frustrations over the lack of quality while pointing out that care shouldn't be up to the fans.
"To everyone saying I should have pressed it on with parchment paper, why should we be the ones to preserve a $50 shirt?" she wrote. "I did everything I normally do to take care of my clothes and it still faded a TON." Other fans commented that they noticed holes in their T-shirts shortly after purchasing them but have not shared videos of that.
It is worth noting that graphic T-shirts do tend to fade with wash and wear, and there's nothing cooler than a genuinely worn-in concert tee, but such intense fading after one wash can be a little jarring for some.
And not all users are dealing with the fading. Taylor fan momandadley's beige tour tee "survived" the wash, as she documented in a suspenseful reveal after pulling it out of the wash. Other fans took the opportunity to poke fun at the situation with Taylor-centric jokes, including one who teased that the issue was actually an Easter egg and that Tay's next album would be called Fade Away. Another joked that if you keep washing the shirt, you'll find the release date of Speak Now (Taylor's Version), which, LOL.
